We are LEGALLY registered residents of South Dakota and full time RVer's. When we purchased our RV as well as our tow vehicle we paid sales tax to South Dakota. Our drivers licenses are South Dakota. Our voter registration is South Dakota. Our vehicle insurance is South Dakota. Each year we renew or tags and pay all associated fees in South Dakota.
In order to legally do this we sign an affidavit stating that we do not own property in any other state that can be claimed as our primary residence. It is officially classified as "Nomad" status by the state of South Dakota. Everything is perfectly legal as long as you are truthful and follow the rules. To say that just because we choose to claim South Dakota for our residency that we are liars or tax cheats is insulting to those of us who did the research and choose to save our money to take care of ourselves in our retirement rather than having to rely on the government for handouts.
