As much as I hated doing it, I just paid 9% tax on my motorhome purchase for the privilage of living in CA. It was 9% of the total sales price, not the sales price less the trade (which by the way I had paid tax on when I purchased it). I cannot fathom how anyone can purchase a new motorhome and afford to pay 9% on $400,000. I own a house in AZ as well as here in CA but my main residence is in CA so as the MD lottery used to say many years ago- You have to pay to play! I did meet a guy driving a Newall that was $1.7 million new. He did have Montana tags on it with an LLC.
