From what I've seen it doesn't look nearly as bad as expected. Anyone in the area to update?
To put things in perspective, Hurricane Sandy, which went through the heavily populated NE, put 8 Million people without power. Hurricane Irma, has caused the LARGEST power outage from ANY natural disaster with over 10.5 MILLION households without power.
Obviously this means businesses are shut down, gas stations are shut down, grocery stores are shut down, and it may be weeks or months before all areas have power restored. Of course this does not include the houses and businesses that are totally destroyed and must be rebuilt.
For some reason officials are diverting fuel to the major highways so that people can return to their homes. When they get home, they will probably find that most people are without power, and without fuel supplies to sustain their generators.
Yep, from afar it does not look as bad as some expected. From right here, it looks pretty bad.
