I am not near as concerned about wind as I am water, as I have done in the past I will get inland find a recently constructed big box store & park as close to it side as I can. It is relatively each to follow the storm with all the sites tracking it & if really bad I just keep driving

Sounds like a great time to plan a trip to Wisconsin. Vist the Dells and have a great time. Or go to Itasca State Park in Minnesota and "walk" over the Mississippi River! I have a feeling you won't find any hurricanes there.

Yes. My RV came in incredibly handy on my last trip to save my boat from another hurricane.

You seemed seasoned in dealing with this and that's good. When Florence came through here last year I learned 2 things; you need to leave earlier than you think - wind picks up sooner, traffic picks up sooner, gas stations are out of fuel as well as stores out of food, this all happened 3 days before the storm hit. Second thing I learned was that it took us 3 weeks to get back home. The aftermath is the worst. Power outages, roads closed to debris or water, no fuel or food at stores etc. We thought it made no sense to hurry back to a house that had no power and all the infrastructure is basically still shut down. We had friends that tried to return after a week and got stranded twice in high water on roads. Frankly I really don't understand what makes people ride out storms like this. They think they can save their home - not sure what you would do if a tree falls on your house or the roof blows off, and you put EMS folks in danger trying to save you. I am glad you have a plan and I wish you safe travels and hope you come back and everything is ok. I never appreciated having a MH so much. It's the perfect escape pod.

I am surprised that Florida hasn't started calling for evacuations yet, or at least a time table to evacuate. Hopefully over the weekend they will. When we had to evacuate for Hurricane Matthew, we loaded up and headed west on US 82. Lots of Floridians right there with us. We ended up in Albany, GA at Cheehaw State Park.

There is a Walmart in Tifton, GA that had about 30+ RVers that spent the weekend. We stopped there on our way back home and ran into a few. I talked to one of the evacuees who told me the sheriff's office was there handing out blankets and water. Other local business owners brought pizza, donuts, etc. We were happy to have the motorhome with generator when we got home since power was out for another 2 days.

AMS Open for Hurricane

We have been lucky to outrun heavy thunder storms with flooding, but wonder what we'd do if a sudden tornado event loomed while we were in the middle of open farmland and not aware of any kind of shelter nearby. Has anybody written a book on how best to avoid or survive dangerous weather in a motorhome?
