Is Having GPS In The Radio Worth The Time and Money?

I started down the road of putting in an Android Auto radio into my 2003 E-450, even trimmed the dash to fit the double din. lets just say I did not like the install, and went back to the original radio. You can't see the parts I trimmed. The GPS and Google maps works best on my phone in a holder suctioned to the windshield.
