I am the original poster.
Thank you all for your thoughts and experiences. I had thought it would be nice to have GPS in the radio, but after reading all your comments, and thinking about our experience with a hand-held GPS, I am leaving well enough alone. The only thing I might do is buy something new like that Garmin 760LMT that wildtoad suggested....make it a Christmas present for my wife. She is addicted to those kinds of electronics. I know she would love it. We have not updated our old GPS in many years so it's time for something new which is why I contemplated an in-dash GPS. The large screen Garmin LMT (Lifetime Maps & Traffic) hand-held seems a good choice.
Any other recommendations for a good brand/model hand-held GPS? My wife especially appreciates current restaurants and shopping stores....especially Walmart-type stores open 24 hours and offer RV overnight parking. My wife drives too, but is typically the navigator.
