- ChopperbobExplorerCheck out Bus Kote, good stuff.
- MocoondoExplorer IIAs others have surmised, that is a black EPDM roof manufactured by a company known for making membrane style roofing products for buildings.
I've seen a couple roofs like this floating around over the years. The black material is about half the price at a building materials supply company. Cost was probably the motivation for the previous owners decision to go with that product versus the normal RV white EPDM material (approx. half the price). Who knows? He may have been in the roofing business and had a leftover piece from a job.
I'm not sure I would want that on *my* RV for a number of reasons, but it does look like the PO did a decent job with the installation. No respectable RV service facility would have installed that. If you are ok with the black, I'd just run it as-is. It looks like a clean install and I'd just leave it alone. I'm not sure I would put a coating on it if that were me.
Looking beyond the black roof, I guess my main concern would be if the previous owner went cheap on the roof to save a few bucks, what else did he cheapen out on and how will that affect long term ownership of the unit? - ktoyExplorerI thought that the FR might stand for fire retardant but will find out when I call the manufacturer. I was pretty happy to find that marking on the roof. Thanks for the help!
Update: after looking at the link you provided, I think you might be right about the reinforced fiber. - path1ExplorerGood idea to call to confirm. Those last letters "EDPMFR" I think is EDPM "Fiber Reinforced" but don't know for sure??? Might be a lot stronger than regular RV stuff???

- ktoyExplorerI found this stamp on the roof so I know what type of roof I have. I think I can use liquid roof without a primer but will attempt to call the roof manufacturer to confirm.
- -LqdskierExplorerYes, my roof looked just like that except it did have some sparse white patches. I believe it was all white at some point before I bought it. The Liquid Roof should be fine over it.
- ktoyExplorerI misunderstood you. You were talking about using solvent for the old caulk. My apologies. I will have to dig in and see what I'm working with. I appreciate all the help. I will post my findings after I confirm what I have. Thanks again.

If don't have any old caulk to get off no reason to use it. But I would of thought who ever installed it would of caulked where roof material meets trim and around vents etc. How could you have a water tight membrane with out it being trimmed out around flashings, vents a/c etc?
After looking at the google images that you linked path1, I am sure it is a black epdm roof. You mentioned about using solvent cleaner to get the old junk off. I am a little confused due to the fact my roof is just rubber and not sure what I would be taking off with the solvent? There does not appear to be any coating on the rubber. Thanks for your assistance. - ktoyExplorerAfter looking at the google images that you linked path1, I am sure it is a black epdm roof.
