Is the new Ford 6 speed really that BIG a deal?

I guess I have more torque at lower RPM's. I am not an engine expert. I liked the three five speeds I had. They were a bit loud but they pulled well and got me there. This six speed is fantastic in every way. It is smooth, powerful and quiet. Yes it is an amazing change. I will leave it to the experts to tell me why but don't tell me it is not a fantastic improvement.
