- pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
It would be best to get a 2nd identical battery. Do wire them in a balanced manner. - thcguy12ExplorerI mean the battery is bought and installed. I am hoping it will work out.
I could go buy a second battery but don't feel comfortable saying I want to return his gift and need the reciept - he's sensitive.
Maybe I go get a second battery (deep cycle) and run them parallel. This camper will just be up at our land all summer and never come down. Maybe camp 1-2 times a month for 1 day per trip. No hookups.
The solar pannel we got is 120W. - JiminDenverExplorer IITHC
What was the size of the solar panel you picked up? - pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
Welcome to the forums.
Do you boondock? If so, that is not much capacity. If you simply go from campground to campground with shore power, any battery will pretty much meet the needs. - JiminDenverExplorer IILike us, I don't think the OP ever intends to have hook ups.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIIF you do not spend much time without electrical hookups and have room for only one battery than good choice
If you like to spend time "Off the grid" you need a real deep cycle battery and more than one.. best option (For the money) is pairs of GC-2 six volt golf car batteries wired in series but if you only have room for one.. That won't work so your G-27 is a good choice - JiminDenverExplorer IIWith what you have said you want to do, the battery will be fine. Our grp 27 is 4 years old and we use more power than you will be. Having solar to keep it up will keep it and you happy.

Other than starting the motor (and running the radio?) what else does the 12V battery do?
Oh not much, it just runs the brain box on the fridge, the water pump, the furnace motor, the water heater igniter, the lights, and if so equipped, the inverter.
Other than that, not much that I can think of. :h
To the OP, when it comes to an RV battery, bigger is always better.
A popular choice, with good reason, is to run (2) 6 volt golf cart batteries in series.
If you only have room for (1) battery, again, bigger is always better. - mike_brezExplorerMine came from the factory with four deep cycle 8D batteries. I changed them out last year and replaced with the same. If your changing the house batteries most go with 6 volt golf cart batteries that can be purchased at a decent price from Sams Club.
- TvovExplorer IIDo you need that battery for starting the engine, or for using to run some of the systems on the camper while camping?
