Is this the right engine??

Hello all, first time posting and looking to get my first RV.

Im looking at a 2013 Coachman Freelander 19CB. The add says it has a V8 330 in it. However, when i research this unit i have found multiple sites that tell me it has a Triton V10 on the spec sheet. Did they ever make this model with that engine? Was it an option? Im concerned that the motor may have been swapped.

Would the VIN tell me what it came with?

  • E-350 cutaway in that era had the 5.4 V8 as standard equipment, 6.8 V10 optional. E-450 has 6.8 V10 as standard, no engine options.

Some RV manufacturers use the E-350 for smaller C's (actually for small A's in the case of bare chassis). Some who use the E-350 buy it with the V8. It will have a lower GCWR and tow rating than the V10 version.

The VIN engine code tells which engine Ford installed. Your VIN says 5.4 V8.
  • Howdy, my 2003 Winnebago Mini 24v with E350 says v8 on the fender but there is a V10 under the hood. Go figure.....

The 5.4 is 80% of the V10. Ford added two cylinders that V8 to approach "big block" displacement without running a big block production line. I've driven a rental truck with 5.4 and it was a decent engine.

Havent had any luck finding a goon VIN decoder. Does anyone know where i can find one?

The VIN i have is 1FDWE3FL1CDA41213

That one states it's the 5.4 (330 CI) in it. Does show E350 chassis

edit: it's not perfect, you have to pick from the dropdown to identify what wheelbase, and the specs on fueltank etc can be iffy. But for the engine specs, I have found that one to be good.

  • The VIN will tell you. So will the emissions sticker under the hood. For that size coach, the 5.4L V8 would be standard, and the V10 optional.
