Any tales of "I can't believe it cost that much!" to share?
That's why I went with the Chev- I have other chevs and familiarity with the layout.
Anyone anywhere will work on a chev, ford, dodge...there are MILLIONS of these chassis on the road...and the 6.0 in my Chev shares parts with every pick up, SUV and even some corvette DNA.
The tranny is used in all those plus 1/3 of the GM passenger cars.
the alternator, starter and brakes are at your local parts store.
the battery is at costco ( coach battery too)
safelite has the windshield and door glass
the serpentine belt ( autozone)can be replaced with a single 15mm wrench
Rialta- some hate them, I think the interior lay out is neat ( 4 versions- the sideways sleepers are not great for the tall- they also do fore/aft sleepers)
there seems to be an active community for them
service: millions of VW's on the road all over the world, major components in use for 20 years...
lift; very few service procedures require a vehicle be lifted overhead.
Oil changes- I do myself- on the chev it can be level in the driveway, I can reach the drain plug and oil filter laying on the ground- all the chassis parts are common.
I would never suggest any chain operation.
find a Mom and Pop who will be there and be accountable.
too many of the chains have been caught ripping customers..common that what is on the coupon is NOT the quality of oil you want in your car...so they upsell you to the synthetic you need.
midas? I cannot remember the last time I needed a muffler ( over 30 years since I left Canada)...and besides the layout of the water tanks and genny probably require custom pipe bending, rather than a generic lay out from a book- a specialty shop can do this easily.
tires: costco- $170 each
the cabinetry stuff in our van is common-
Canadian made vans ( PW/RT/LW) commonly use square drive Robertson head screws for cabinetry and electrical ( CDN code), get an R1 and R2 bit and you can tighten anything that is loose.
