Since my last post, it's been quite a trip.
We went to the RV show and saw a Roadtrek 170. It was pretty nice, but there was no way I could have slept in a bed that small. I researched the models available and thought maybe a Ranger would work. Only thing is, we couldn't find one to look at nearby.
We wondered if we could swing payments on a new one. We love to jump in a car and go so this isn't going to collect dust. Maybe we could justify it because of the warranty, not having to worry about repairs, fuel savings, etc.
Then I noticed that according to the specs, they only have a 2.5 gallon water heater. Say what? The mrs. said she was game, but I replied she would be gamey.
But then we ran into some technical difficulties...we'd hoped to park it under out carport, but we can't raise it as much as we wanted due to wires coming into the house and some other. As a result, even a Roadtrek would be too tall to fit in the back. So we'd have to rent a space elsewhere to keep it.
That was disappointing, yet also liberating. Unfettered by the need to keep it short, other makes and models became possibilities again.
So short story long, we just bought a 2006 Chinook Concourse. The dealer is repairing a faulty propane valve, spit shining the unit, topping off its fuel, etc. and we'll take possession either next weekend or the one after that.
We really really REALLY like the Chinook. A Roadtrek would have been adequate but I think the extra room will be better for us. The "dedicated" bath w/6 gallon water heater is nice. The seating makes into a queen bed, much nicer. And it wasn't difficult to drive at all. Plenty of room for Addie the Wonder Dog, too!
All at a *much* lower price. We'll add an extended service plan (suggestions?) etc. but that's that. Thanks to all for your advice, opinions, etc.!
