It's a shame

It's a shame that people will post and ask questions about how to fix problems with their rv and when others post with potential solutions which they have spent a good amount of time explaining, the op doesn't even say "thanks" nor even ever reply that the problem was corrected. It makes one leery of wanting to make the effort to provide helpful suggestions. I can tell by the pictures and charts that some people provide that they expended a fair amount of time and effort to try to help fellow rvers correct problems. Sometimes the result is silence and not even a "thanks". It's sad.
  • It is very helpful to provide the information requested if possible AND provide the parameters for a search like on this forum OR on google that would get the information. I been teaching college students, younguns with smart phone attached to their hand, and they dont know how to do searches. It is the teachers way of providing fish and a fishing pole.

We've talked about this topic many times, and been happening since this forum began.

I do this same thing and suggest others do it as well. There's no point in reinventing the wheel when often covered topics come up, but there are some that are happy to create thoughtful posts regardless. The search function of this forum has been very helpful for me over the years.
  • Agree with WoodGlue. It is also nice to let new members know they might also find more information via the search function. Pity the newbie who has a tire question and tries to find an answer by searching. ;)
  • The constant back and forth banter between all kinds of posters is the very lifeblood of this forum. Not only is it friendly and welcoming but necessary to keep needed, updated ideas afloat in the forums.

Absolutely nothing is accomplished by telling a new forum member to "search this forum"

It MURDERS creativity and discourse between the seasoned user and the new user.

As for myself, I'll always answer a newbies question about leveling their rig, or which TP to use, etc etc

  • While I maybe new to these forums I have been and continue to be on many. I understand fully what your saying but always remember to help others and they will help you, as said ..good karma. I always say thanks and please just like I learned in kindergarten, but some may forget. And yes it is sometimes a challenge for us non computer savvy to do searches and too the new to the forums won't know what was already covered. So to those that say that I have one comment. If in fact it was covered, you must have read the information, so please share. After all we all learned to share in kkindergarten too. Just saying
  • Some people PM with thanks. I have received them and sent them myself.

  • Although it's a shame, I'll continue to give help in whatever area I can help (which aren't that many)

My beef is with the posters whose pat answers are; "Do a search" or "that topic has already been covered here before"

If it was done that way, we wouldn't have any discussion at all, any new and updated information about a specific subject. Why be here at all? It just strikes me as RUDE AND LAZY when an established poster tells someone else to "do a search" These posters know who they are and should be ashamed.

  • Never stop believing that the time you give isn't helping someone. Good Karma :)
  • Used to bother me also. But it is what it is. I know I've forgotten to get back sometimes. I just try to help because other people have helped me. I mostly post to keep my writing skills up or atleast not get any worse. So I benefit regardless.
  • I always take heart in the fact that, while the original person may not respond, maybe someone else with a similar problem will be able to use my suggestion. In the end we are all creating an encyclopedia of knowledge for use by all and there is a certain amount of satisfaction to be garnered by contributing to the overall good.
