Great answer! What you, as the OP/owner of YOUR coach needs to do is, learn YOUR COACH! That is, learn what it takes to control it in ALL type roads, hills, flats, mountains and more. And, you learn by USING all your components, in all kinds of situations. You'll then be able to make a decision or, multiple decisions, quickly, as to whether to use a "Jake" or, "Exhaust" brake or not, in any given situation.
Sure, some of us can tell you, "don't use it in this situation, or that one or, at this speed or that speed or, city streets or certain degree or percent of slopes etc." but, EVERYBODY drives and operates their coach differently for given situations.
Yep, it's smart to ask if you're not sure but, do learn your coach and how well it stops or at least slows down with and without the use of "Jake" or, "Exhaust" braking. Good luck and happy RVing.
