Jayco Grayhawk 29mv vs Forest River Sunseeker 3010ds

Both 2017.
Jayco is about $2,000 more. Same Ford chassis
1. Which do you all think is better built. The feeling i got was the Jayco.
2. The Sunseeker has airbag suspension which can be adjusted and the Jayco has their J-Ride. Which is better?
3. Jayco has tank-less hot water vs 6 gallon in Sunseeker. Of course grey-water tank capacity limits overall use. The norm seems to be the 6 gallon type tank. Are there issues to be aware of with tank-less? Failure/maintenance/other
3. 2 year warranty on Jayco vs 1 year on Sunseeker. Could this be a deal maker or breaker?
4. What is a realistic discount off "msrp" when buying?
5. Are "Show Specials" a real deal or is there still room for a better price?
6. Jayco has solid fiberglass front cap. Sunseeker has seams, how big of a deal is this with a new unit?

Any other thoughts or comments are appreciated. This would be my first RV and I don't want to screw it up right away. Am aware maintenance is on-going and things happen, but want issues to be minimized

Thanks, I appreciate your input

    We have a 201 Jayco 31FK.

#3 - The Tank vs. Tankless is only slightly less controversial than the faked moon landings and the Hatfields/McCoys.

For every one that says they like the tankless, you'll find one that hates it.

    #6 - that's a big deal to me.
  • Jayco makes a better coach. You don't want airbags. You want a properly built suspension that can handle the weight. We have a 2009 Greyhawk 31FS. Jayco had not coined the term J-Ride yet, but our Motorhome has the same components. Our Motorhome handles great at highways speeds. I drive with one hand and can drive 12+ hours a day without a problem - do it several times a year.

You should try to get 25% off MSRP. We got 26% off MSRP when we bought ours. It took 4 years before NADA guides valued our MH less than what we paid for it.

  • We were just at the Pontiac (Illinois) RV dealership open house. I did not pay strict attention to the price postings, but my recollection is that Sunseekers listed as upper 80s MSRP were being offered in the mid to upper 60s. My wife recalls the same. These were white, not full body paint. Models in the 30xx numbers.

When we bought ours there, we got 37% off MSRP. MSRP is sort of a fiction in the RV industry, I think. We got our good price by starting at RVdirect.com, getting a price from them. Then asking midwest dealers if they would meet that price. Pontiac RV actually beat it. I think RVD sells Jayco's too, so you can get a price on both Sunseeker and Jayco from them. They have a dealership in Des Moines, so not too bad if you actually buy from them.

From your bullet points, I would rate #6, Jayco's cap, as the most important advantage between the two brands.

I personally don't think I'd want the tankless heater, but I guess I'd be willing to try one.

You didn't mention the roof. Climb up on each and see what you think. Sunseeker is fiberglass, but has the water puddle catching built up seams above the sidewalls. Then it has a separate piece which wraps over the sidewalls. I don't know what Jayco has. If Jayco wraps over the sides in once piece, I would like that better. In our case, I will just make sure to get up and inspect a couple of times a year. This would not keep me from buying another Sunseeker, but still.

An extra year of warranty could be nice. Certainly can't hurt.
