Hello everyone, I wanted to get a post going, as I'm a first time RV owner, and although I have basic knowledge on how the systems work, I'm smart enough to know that your years of experience are better than any degree!I purchased a 1994 Serro Scotty Pioneer B2200 4x4 (Dodge Dakota) Overall, the floor, cab body and frame are solid. The cab has some small issues like blower fan noise, interior light issues, and a few other issues I can handle. The rig will need six new tires, as they are dated 14 years old, and have flat spots. The only drivetrain question I have is what size tires did these come with from the factory? It currently has 31x10.5 tires, and I'm pretty sure it's taking away needed gearing. I have no need for oversize tires, so anyone with info on that would be greatly appreciated.Second:Not having knowledge of how the fresh / black / Gray tanks as well as how gas appliances-shore Power-Generator and coach battery interact with each other, can someone advise me on the general operations of this unit? It needs a new coach battery, and the generator (Onan 2800)doesn't run. I'm pretty certain I just need to clean the carb, but any info on these units will be helpful.Third:Are there any Scotty owners here? This seems to be a cool RV for my family of three. Not too big, not too small. If there's someone out there that can school me on what to look out for, and common quirks, it would be great.That's it for now, I'll be out there soon!Brian

Welcome aboard. Please post some pictures of your rig when you get a chance as I have never seen a Serro Scotty Pioneer.

I can't help much as I'm also new to this, but we just got a 1994 Four Winds that had 11-year-old tires. We found two labels inside the driver's door that had factory specs; one from Ford for the chassis, including original tire size and recommended inflation rate, and a second from Four Winds with RV-type info such as GVWR, etc. We got 7 new tires (don't forget your spare!) in the original tire size, but went up one rating for weight from a D to an E.

I bought this maintenance manual. I don't know if we've really ever used it - maybe I've looked up one thing? But we keep it with the owners manual, and if I didn't have an owners manual it would probably become even more handy.A couple other things I did...although since you already have your RV you may not have the time/inclination to spend as much time researching (read: dreaming) and prepping as I did while I saved up and searched for the right model...1. I read here. A LOT. I felt like after reading everyone else's problems/questions and the associated responses, I had a really good understanding of what to look for and how to best operate our RV when we bought one. DH's parents had an RV when he was younger, so he knew a lot about them without needing the research step. We're both very handy, so understanding and optimizing has been a fun process.2. I searched on ebay and google for my model periodically (mostly as part of the search to purchase one). Granted we ended up buying a slightly newer RV than you did, so you may not get as lucky, but I was able to purchase complete systems and electrical diagrams for our model that appear to have been taken out of a dealer service center that shut down. You never know what info you might find if you search on your model every once in a while.

The RV Book has been a benefit to my DH for a basic overview of all the RV systems. Also, I did a google search for our make and model and found a pdf of the original Four Winds Owner's Manual that had some useful info.And I second alliemac9's suggestion to read here a LOT. We have learned a ton through other people's questions and explanations. I use the search bar at the top of the page quite often!

Contact the librarian at the RV Hall of Fame and MH Museum in Elkhart. They may have a copy of the owners manual and be able to answer some of your questions.

Welcome to RVing! We've owned three Scotty motorhomes. The first was a Pioneer which we only had for about a year but I can give you a little information. Ours was not a 4x4 but it did have a tag axle. After driving it around for months we discovered that the tag axle brakes were not working because the factory was not hooking them up so that they would work. So check that. While you're at it make sure that the welds holding the tag axle to the truck are good. The welds on ours had cracked and the frame of the truck had ripped from the stress. We had it fixed but it wasn't tracking perfectly after that.

Other than that we liked it and didn't have any other problems.
