If I ever needed a justification for my 'C', it was a day driving on I-70 in the Denver area. There was an abandoned car in the median. When Police stopped to check it out, they found pipe bombs in the trunk. So everybody was re-routed onto a narrow two lane road which caused an immediate 10 mile backup. Nothing but empty fields on either side of the road. It took over three hours to get to the next entrance ramp. Unlike most of the folks in that line, I had an on board bathroom. BTW, the next I-70 rest area parking lot was full. :)

Amen, brother! Every summer we have highway projects in the two-lane mountain passes which sometimes close the highway for up to an hour. Much easier to wait it out in an RV with a toilet, fridge and other comforts, that's for sure!

Yes I have often been in my car in long backups and have had to wait to use the bathroom. Now that I have an RV I will not have that problem any more.

A good part of the justification for us is the sheer amount of time RVing allows us to spend with our two daughters. When we're home in the stick-built house, it's so easy to get distracted by all the "to-do's" that need doing. When we're on the road or in a campsite, it's all about family time. We all love it and expect to be RVers for life!

Without a doubt, the ability to stay inside and take any care of any business be it food, drink or whatever else is needed is a real benefit. Even though any TT could be a suitable alternative when one loses power, My ROO would not have been what I would have liked during two different two week periods without power recently, even with a genny. Although my sons and I did do three weeks straight in it at Cherrystone (VA) w/o sewer or cable no less. The Sunseeker was so much more comfortable as an alternative with amenities during the no power disasters.

My wife and I lived in our rig in the driveway for nearly one year while our house was being renovated and remodeled and while she was on chemo and radiation treatments. Renting a place to live would have cost around $12K. The rig has served as a spare bedroom with bathroom and TV etc for visitors. It has come in handy for airshows, days in the park, hobby and dog events, etc. in addition to touring and camping. If you can't forsee using and enjoying an RV very much, maybe you should rent one occasionally instead of buying. There are cheaper camping solutions like tents, air mattresses, Coleman lanterns and ice chests, public restrooms and showers.

Yeah, but she has to enjoy them without heat or air. Lol. Plus you gotta stop for her to use them. :)

I justified my purchase today while in the beauty shop. Some ladies were talking about condo rentals in Galveston. One had found a 2-BR condo and it was " only" going to be $400 per person for Saturday & Sunday nights and " right on the beach".

I told my hairdresser " gee, all I'd have to do is fill up the RV with gas, drive to Galveston, & I could spend the night at Galveston State Park on the beach for around $25/night."

It was 104 and the power was out, I brought the rig home, fired up the air,TV, the son and daughter in law could dress for a party and we had a nice dinner. Ask me if the cost is worth it? Anytime!

I had forgotten about this! When we towed a TT I used to hate that dreaded "I gotta go". Looking for a safe place to pull over and then having to pull back out into traffic was a pain. With the MH, I just have to keep the ride nice and smooth and think about what snack I want DW to get on her way back!:B

My dad started to do that one day. It was the last time he got to drive! Fortunately mom hollared before things got nasty, then took away his license.

Road closure has happened to us just a few times and I just look for a nice level spot on the side of the road pull over turn the RV off put the hazards on and go to the back and relax till not only has it opened back up but the backup has gone away.
Only one time have I been hassled by Barney Fife and I just looked at him and told him that my RV had started to overheat and I that was the reason I had pulled over and if he wanted me to I would get back in the traffic lanes and shut off my RV because of overheating and block traffic till a tow truck could come and take me into town or I could stay where I was till the traffic started moving again it was his choice, I got to stay on the side of the road. FYI I was not overheating,
