We had been struggling with a kayak solution as well. Here were the options we had come up with:
- Vertical rack on the back of the C
- Shorter boats horizontally on a rack on the back of the C
- Toad with roof rack
- On the top of the C
- Inflatable boats that can be stowed in the storage hatch
We just got done Craigslisting our hard kayaks and opted for inflatables. We use the hitch mount for our bike rack, and we use our bikes more than our yaks, so the bikes won out for that space. And for the casual fun family stuff we do with them, inflatables should work well for us. The other thing is that we can bike to a put-in spot that might be off the beaten path. I was actually impressed with our maiden trial with our first inflatable. It inflated a whole lot faster than I thought and tracked fairly well. To be honest, I found inflating and deflating less arduous than loading-unloading-reloading a yak to just go to our local lake near home. We have an inflatable SUP on the way, so we will see how that one works out.
