Gen is almost always on when we travel. Not only for AC, but TV, Sat, refer (as fuel is easier to fill than LP), outlets, microwave etc. I don't measure mpg, but I have to guess it's about .5 mpg. Probably not much more than the drag of dash air on the engine and it's impact to mpg, and of course cooling is much more efficient with the rooftop than the dash - as you have noticed. That's why we bought a MH, to travel in comfort. All the ammenities of a rolling apartment.
