Part of what we see as a lack of kitchen counter space is created from the mid-door placement. Something that isn't as problematic in a DP chassis with a front door placement. Moving the entry door to the front just frees up that extra wall space for other uses.
A valid point, I think. Probably one more reason to lean toward DP instead of gas.
But in the no more than 38-foot size, a DP with a front door placement generally doesn't buy much extra space. Here's one from a 36' Winnebago Journey DP, which may be more typical of DPs.

Looks like about 18 to 20 inches between sink and stovetop, plus 10 or 12 inches to the left of the stovetop.
But then there are exceptions to that rule, too. Here's a photo of the kitchen from an Itasca Suncruiser 38T, gas, mid-entry door. They put the kitchen in the front.

Come to think of it, it seems that many/most of the MHs with good kitchens have it in the front. Canyon Star 3856 comes to mind as another good gas-engine example with a nice kitchen. But it's door is just behind the passenger seat, not middle.
Hmmm, food for thought. Thanks!
