I find it most interesting that every time the K&N filter topic comes up on the forum, it always seems to generate a firestorm of controversy.
Usually someone will post a report on, or a link to air filter test results that are extremely unfavorable to the K&N filters citing their failure to block harmful particulates that when ingested can result in severe engine damage and/or the contamination of Mass Airflow Sensors.
I’m certainly not qualified to dispute those claims, however in 2005 we had the Banks system installed on our 2000 coach at 40k miles. Of course the system included the air intake assembly using the K&N filter.
Now, nine years later with 85k miles on our coach, so far, we’ve not experienced any minor or major engine failures nor any contamination of the Mass Airflow Sensor.
Hopefully the future will spare us from any major engine failures during our continued use of the K&N filter.
