Kodiak tires

Have any of you Kodiak owners gone from a 225/70-19.5 to a 245/70 -19.5? When I put the last set on I also used Dynabeads instead of a spin balance. I've not had any issues but a tire shop I talked to today recommended a spin balance not beads. Thanks.

  • GM only had one size steel or aluminum/steel wheels for the motorhome chassis. You can check the spacing of your wheels by measuring from center to center. They are over 11" spacing. Michelin says minimum spacing for 245 tires should be 11.1".
The 225 XZE is a good tire choice. But requires 110 psi to carry 15K lbs. 245 XZE would only need 95 psi for 15k.
  • Thanks Ron. The tire shop yesterday said the 245's would not fit. Was going to try to save some money and buy tires in Oregon. No sales tax. I've been running the 225 XZE's since 2010. I'd prefer Michelins again. Thanks again.

  • I changed over to 245 tires many years ago. This last go around I upgraded to G range tires. The 245 tires throw speedometer off about 1 1/2 mph. Current set of tires are truck tires not RV tires. Some choices in these type tires are Goodyear G647, Michelin XZE and Firestone 560 plus. Many others to choose from in the 245/70 19.5" load range G tires. Some have H load range tires.
I have not seen any ride quality problems with these tires. Last time I weighed my MH. Rear axle was at 15k pounds. That puts you right at the edge of the load capacity of 225 tires. You may want to stop at CAT scale and get your MH weighed before you buy tires.
I had my tires done on a Hunter Force Match HD Balancer last time. Does a great job of making tire run true and balance. I also have Centramatic on front wheels. They take that last little vibration our of the front end.
My last tires came from Redburn tire Co. in Mesa. They have dealers all around southwest. Not all stores have a Hunter Force Match HD.
