Kwikee step won't close

Did some research and tried a couple of things suggested, magnet etc. I saw some one mentioned you could retract them manually? Can anyone be more specific how to do this so I can get to my destination to have it repaired. I am in an RV park in Ft Stockton TX headed east. Thanks
  • Glad to hear that the "love tap" worked. As I said, I did this for year's on my step(no, I didn't have to do it every time but only after the MH sat for a bit). Keep your eye out for an expensive window motor when it gets to that point of no return.

Thanks guys. The video was great. Armed with that and other suggestions I went out at 0630 this morning hoping to at least get them folded up. Spotted the cotter pin and bolt right away. Saw the motor too and tapped on it first as also suggested, and hot dang, it fixed the problem. Works like a champ again. First time I ever looked under the steps. lol Thanks guys!

Great that you got it going without any real trouble and at least for now. There may be some stops that are becoming oblong and what's doing the jamming.
I have an update as well, since my new power window motor arrived early and this morning, so it's now installed as a step motor and works perfectly. Very quite too.
Some of it was a learning experience and had to tap the gear ass'y ( Chinese specs. I guess) together with a block and small hammer. If not feasible, I would have just swapped out the mating gear with the old one. The rest of the assy went well on the bench and cut off the supplied electrical connector for matching up my own installation. Now with the step now out, comes the easy part with bolting it up in there and re-installing the clevis pin, right?Well, for whatever reason, had quite a time getting it lined up. Like, are you kidding me or what!
Anyway all is well and just glad I didn't have on one of those pressed white techinician jackets, while down under there in the grease and grime...:E

  • Had steps that worked on and off for year's but a good rap or two with a hammer always worked. I did finally replace the motor with a discounted auto window motor that did the trick. Anyways, if you haven't already tried...give the mechanism a whack or two.

    This might help

Those guys in the pressed white shirts, sure made it look easy...lol
Also, didn't bother to show us the procedure for working upside down and the step being closed, with no easy way of getting to that cotter pin.
Nothing in any of the instructions for that matter, so in this case and again......remove the 4 nuts, holding the motor/gearbox plate and you'll be able to get to it easily.

Should be a clevis on the arm of the motor gear box, with a bolt affair and cotter pin. Good that the step is open for getting to it from down under and maybe with out having to drop the motor/gearbox ass'y plate.
Once done, you'll have to tie it back so it won't be going in and out on it's own.
I have mine apart now and had to do so with the step (single version) in the closed position. Motor is burnt up and a new one will be here, by Friday.
Here's a tip for the motor and if ever needed. Buy a power window motor instead and what it actually is and and save some money with the one I ordered costing about $31. Add in a couple of American flags and get free shipping. Just ordered it yesterday, too.
All this with a Kwikee product and others may vary with not being sure of what you have there.
All else fails, drive it with it out and watch where you're going with it.
