BTW,Doug. I WAS an RV mechanic for a period of time after retirement from the Army. I also have built and installed hydraulic systems on trucks, heavy equipment, etc. I was also a Helicopter Mechanic and Crew Chief while in the Army. I also was trained by the manufacturer on the Lycoming T53L3 gas turbine engine used in Huey Helicopters. I'd dare say that any helicopter made is a tad bit more intricate than any RV. I also helped build a plant that manufactures stuff like the RV's. I have visited a RV plant here in PA and got the grand tour. Over the years I have repaired/replaced many components on RV's, included the chassis of same. I know exactly how they are manufactured from the chassis shop until final inspection. l can totally dismantle one if need be, AND, put it back together again.
Again, the INTENT of the OP was to inform folks about the poor quality of LCI/Lippert Components. The motor that runs the hydraulics is made in China. A replacement costs $780. Come on. Rip off. My jacks probably haven't cycled 40 times, and they FAILED.
The motor home I traded in on our Winnebago came without jacks. I purchased a set of Big Foot. I installed them. This included welding all mounts, installing the cylinders, hydraulic lines, wiring, control panel, etc. They worked the first time and every time we used them. They were on the unit for 8 years. Have you ever installed a complete leveling system?
I agree I'm not a certified RV Technician with 37 years experience like yourself, but I have done quite a bit of repair on RV's.
