It depends on the road. If we are on a back road where there is stop and go traffic and a lot of turns, I just pull over for the wife to use the facilities or get something out of the refrig.
If we are on a nice straight stretch of interstate, she will use the bathroom or get something out of the refrig, while we are moving.
Obviously care must be taken and this is not the best thing to do but we are adults and able to make our own decisions about what is best for our own comfort.
An outstanding answer. Without a doubt, it's simply a judgment call. If anyone feels they're going to be in a massive accident 24/7, every minute of every hour while driving, then by all means, stay sutured up in your seats. But, on long, straight freeways/roadways/country roads/etc., in low to no traffic conditions, then we also use either use the facilities or, one will walk back and take a nap. I've slept many-a-mile back there while the wife's at the helm.
Done the same with the kids driving. But, again, if anyone feels it's unsafe to be in any other spot, other than the intended seat, i.e. drivers seat, passengers seat etc., then stay there, your choice.
