Just got our MH back yesterday with the towing system to tow our JKUR. I had 6 new Michelins put on at a local tire store immediately after we unhooked the Jeep. Got it home changed the oil in the MH, refilled the propane, fuel and am gonna change the oil in the genny this morning then fill up with fresh water. I noticed a stop light bulb was out last night on my way home from the propane refill so gonna replace that too. It's a 1200 mile trip from our place in NJ to our destination in Fla. How many miles do you all drive in a day? I figured if I can get 600 in tomorrow, 500 in Friday we should be good to go Saturday on our final leg. Is this too aggressive? Maybe 500, 500 and 200? Or even 400, 400 and finally 400? I'd like to finish up with 2 or 3 hours of driving. Anything else? Any suggestions? I figure I'm gonna take 95 down the whole way and leave about 0800-0900.ThanksBob

I-95 through SC and parts of the other states is so rough that it will surly test your coach to insure that everything is secure. The rough road also takes it's toll on the driver. Drive until you feel TIRED and then look for a place to stop. Don't go by miles driven. There are plenty of RV parks along I-95 and we have always found a spot to spend the night, without any prior reservations.Your first day you will have to deal with Philly, Baltimore, and DC. By the time you get past them, you will be ready to stop.

How much air did they put in the tires? How much does the placard besides the seat recommend? If they put the max sidewall pressure in them (30 more than recommended) you'll be lucky to make 300 miles/day. I would weigh at a truck stop and adjust pressures per the axle weights. New tires and too much air makes for a poor handling rig. I really am trying to answering your question as it depends on how well your rig handles and how well you handle it. If you are not used to driving something with a long wheel base it's easy to over steer it. I still do the 1500 miles to CO in two days BUT I have a DP that handles very well with very little steering input. Your mileage will vary. GOOD LUCK

Driving 500 miles isn't too bad if you leave very early (dawn) to allow for traffic, weather, accidents, fuel stops etc. That way you can arrive early afternoon at your stops and rest up before the next day. 500 miles is 10 hours of driving.

I never drive more than 350 miles, preferably 300. If you are retired what is your hurry? I also never drive over 62 when towing or not. Safety first should always be the priority. I know many people like to drive 500 - 600 miles a day until they are ready to drop. We will stop at a rest area for lunch then arrive at our day's destination early enough to set up for the night. We then unhook the car and look for a nice local restaurant for our dinner meal. Back to the MH after dinner, rehook the car, get a good night's sleep and off by 9 the next morning or earlier if ready. Most RV parks have quiet hours so I cannot get outside to futz around too early. Aside from that a good night's sleep is always important for driver comfort and safety.As a certified former RV driving instructor the above are lessons I taught all my students.

Thanks so far all. We've had a class "A"since about 06-07, so I'm somewhat comfortable driving it. Our first was a 1999 29' Georgie Boy Pursuit, and was an absolute bear to drive. We used to visit our son in college and could barely do the 300 miles to get there. This one is much easier to drive than the old one. As far as tire pressures he said he put 100 lbs in the steering axle tires and 120 in the drive axle duals. The tire installer asked me to wait a day or so to deflate to 90 lbs in the front so the tires can seat to the rims.

It appears that you made the mistake of getting off of US301 in Waldo and took 24 through Gainsville since US301 actually by-passes Gainsville on the East.
If you were trying to get over to I75, the best bet is to take US301 south to 326, which is just north of Ocala.

It took us a while but we discovered traveling in a motorhome is like life its the journey not the destination. Take your time and enjoy your trip!!

Well. We drove nearly 600 miles today and stopped at a place off of exit 321 of 75 south. Its called lake panasoffkee koa. Nice enough place. I wanted to get further south today as there are severe storms heading for southern Georgia and northern Florida tomorrow. We have a bit over 3 hours left tomorrow. I will say 301 west through Gainesville was rough. crazy speed limits and tons of traffic lights. Glad that's done.

Seems like a waste of $$. We stayed at Country Oaks on the way to and from Florida, and will probably stay there again any time we take that route.

Now, if you plan to stay for a couple days in that area around Jacksonville, Flamingo Lake would be a good choice.

I absolutely agree with this suggestion ....1)2 truck stops and fuel is cheaper in Ga than Florida..2)it is a great campground that we stay in all the time...call ahead for a pull thru and 3) there is a neat little BBQ place at the entrance that is a short walk...Chuck

I'll jump in here and say that last week I made the trip from central Florida to Charleston and back on i-95 and I did not find it to be bad at all. We made that trip three years ago and even my wife noticed that SC had obviously done some work and that 95 was in a lot better shape. Now I did find northbound was a little better than southbound in the right lane but still worlds better than before. I will take it over other stretches of 95, 10, 55, and 75.

X2 on Flamingo Lake...we have stayed there a few times..safe and secure..and right off of 295...safe travels...just get thru SC and the rest is easy...I lost a bike off my gasser and even the spare tire fell off there in 2007 when I had my gasser.

If you are taking 295 bypass around Jacksonville, stay at Flamingo Lake Campground... right off 295, easy off & on, clean, nice sites, nice people... we have stayed there 4 nights as transients......don't need to unhook, they have a snack bar/café, food is good.....

Depends on where in Florida you are going. There a few places to stay in South Georgia just before the border and the fuel will be cheaper.
