They don't come off easily. On some the locking cap is tight against the receiver so you can't get anything behind it to pry with. Also they have a rounded edge so if you do try your pry bar will just slip off.
I take mine off and put it in a basement compartment. Mostly because I don't want it sitting out in the weather.
