Lets discuss Luxury Coaches in CA. Incident with a salesguy

I went to Look at Tiffin last weekend, and My wife and I liked the Phaeton, with Heated Tile Floors, tripple slide, Insta hot, and IFS, but the sales guy wanted us to come back on the weekend to test drive. I was ok with it for a few moments but then I pressed to do it then, on a Saturday since there wasn't much traffic, and he insisted we come back during the week. He said there were only 3 salespeople and that he couldn't leave during a busy time. So, I said forget it, and walked out.

First, I want to say that my time is precious. I want to get in test drive a Phaeton, and an Allegro Bus on the same road so I can get a good feel for what I like. Yes I may not even buy a Tiffin, but cmon, let's get busy with the customers that are here...

No big deal. There are plenty of RV's out there...

SEcondly, the salesguy said I don't want a Tag' in California. He said I will pull up and they will halt me and tell me to back up, and turn around...He said Calfornia won't even allow me to drive on freeways, with a Tag, or anything over 40'...?

Is that true? What should be the Size RV I should get? I mean we want to go to Bamf Canada, Local Lakes, Yosemite, Boondocking, of course, and interstate travel. May part timing it 3 to 4 months out of the year.

The Quality of the ride is very important to me. So, yes it will take me a bit to find the Right Coach

  • That salesman is whacky and knows little about RVs!

There are a number of roads in CA where a bus or motorhome over 40' are prohibited. Click.
  • While only somewhat true, CA DOES allow RV's over 40' (used to be the law) they still do NOT allow RV's and towed to exceed 65' in length. Does CHP care? If their supervisor tells them to care they will come looking for you as an easy source of income.
  • Sounds like you went to Mike Thompson RV. The biggest idiots in the RV industry. No matter who the dealer was, call Tiffin and explain how you were treated.
