Forum Discussion
- My_RoadtrekExplorerI'm closing this thread, if someone wants to start another one, I will let it go off topic, you can discuss anything you want in it.
I wanted this one to be about the Promaster, It's chassis, and how it would be used by the up fitters.
I've deleted several post that were not about the Promaster, and I'm tired of trying to keep it on topic. - RobertRyanExplorer

Unless the Promaster is much heavier than the european Fiat-Ducato camper I used, I think going to a 3 liter turbo diesel is an overkill.
The 2.3 liter I drove never showed a sign of being overstressed, even in 9% climb in the Alps or 70mph highway in Italy
There goes the 30mpg+
Only time you need the 3 Litre is when you go the extended wheelbase or heavier versions of the Class C Ducato. - JackDExplorer
The issue here in the US is that the emissions (EGR especially) laws destroy so much HP and torque from a diesel that the 3.0 turbo diesel is probably putting out as much power as the Multijet diesels in Europe.
The more recent emission standards in Europe can easily meet the U.S. regulations.
Actually, the latest European regulation (Euro6) is pretty similar to the US standards instituted in.. 2007.
Both U.S. and European emissions regulations for both gas and diesel engines now reach the same near-zero emissions requirement.
Most european diesel car manufacturer selling in the U.S. are now adding diesel engines in several models (Audi, Mercedes, BMW, VW, - bobojay5Explorer

Anyone that didn't know, the 3.0 diesel that will be used in the ProMaster, has already been used here for a couple years in the FUSO medium duties.
So it has a proven track record..
The Fuso Canter is a very light truck in Australia, not classified as a Medium, competes with the European Cab Chassis variants of Vans. - bobojay5ExplorerAnyone that didn't know, the 3.0 diesel that will be used in the ProMaster, has already been used here for a couple years in the FUSO medium duties.

That would be my choice despite higher cost(+4K or so). Maybe the Fiat 3 litre diesel will find it's way into RVs too not just commercial vans.

In Europe, from what I have seen, there are 10 to 12 Fiat-Ducato camper for each Sprinter based camper. (price is certainly a factor)
My experience in Europe as well. Here you can only get the small 2.3 engine in the Ducato, 3 litre for Motorhome based Ducato's though and of course 3 litre is the base engine of the IVECO.
