Leveling Jack Problem

Friend has a Holiday Rambler Ambassador, about 2005 and very new to him. Just pulled into a campground on it's maiden voyage and the only jack out of three, that will go down, is one of the rears and not so good at that.
I'm thinking that it's just low on fluid and we just found the reservoir right before dark, so will have him check that first chance he gets. Meanwhile, I thought I'd check in with you all for other ideas and especially with someone who might have the same coach. Also, what fluid type would it be? Mine uses Dextron III and hopefully his manual will have the specs. as well.

  • Fluid OK and hard to tell where things are going without system drawings and such, so he's decided to let it go for now, enjoy the festivities and look into it after he gets back home.
  • Thanks for the responses so far. He and his DW are off to driving school today, so will get back with him later on, when they're done.
  • Since it has 3 jacks, it is either Powergear or RVA. BOTH, IF the fluid level is LOW in the reservoir, you will get a jack down light and a chime sound. Since he has neither, he has enough fluid. That means he has an electrical problem that is not sending the signal to the 2 jack solenoids or both the solenoids are bad. Doug
  • DextronIII. One thing to check for is rust or dirt on the chrome piston. Also check the long hydraulic hose that runs from the pump to the jack. (Look for transmission fluid leak. Might have a hole or tear.
If he has a POWERGEAR system, call them instead of Monaco. They know their product best.
  • DexronIII is the usual fluid. To be sure, if it's not in the manual, give Monaco a call tomorrow @ 1-800-509-3417. He'll need either his coach number, by the entry door above the RVIA sticker or the last 6 digits of his VIN. They can give him that info and a lot of other stuff about his coach. They will email him the build sheet if he asks for it. Very accommodating....Dennis
