I'm thinking the old 2x4 bar might work.. With a couple of modifications.
First, make it a 1x1, easier to wrangle
Second use a couple of hook and eye latches,Only do not buy the latch kits, just the Eyes and a couple S hooks. Run the eyes into the wood trim either side of the door, Cut the 1x1 to the exact width beween the eyes, close one of the "S" openings and screw it onto the end of the 1x2, Screw tight. Hook in the eyes.. Door is now barred.
Option 2 is like that, 2 eyes, bungee cord.
