Looking at 2003 BT Cruiser

I am a haggler. I shopped for a long time for a Rialta. The longer I shopped the higher the prices went so I threw in the towel and bought the Toyota.

Now it looks like I will have to concentrate on getting the Toy done in a couple months.

In my experience, asking prices on these types of rigs are crazy high. We paid somewhere right around $20K for our 2005 Trail Lite B+ about 4 or 5 years ago. The seller was motivated, having tried for two years to sell it at the higher prices that are seen on the internet. If you are in a hurry or otherwise don't want to wait for what could be a long time, you might have to pay the inflated price. But there must be a good bit of room to haggle in those prices.

Now I am confused, if I do a search on the 03 BT cruiser they show up in the mid to upper $20's with the lowest priced one showing as $21,900.

We had a 2003 BT Cruiser on a Ford 450 Chassis. It was a decent coach and we really enjoyed it a lot. Nice bath, uncomfortable jack sofa and the infamous "squeak" above the cab. I read on this forum back in about 2004 about the squeak, pulled the headliner board and tightened the bolts...no more problem. Probably took an hour or a little more. The layout of ours was really neat with a big bath, lots of kitchen counter space. Overall, a nice coach.

As I recall, the term B+ started with the BT Cruiser and I believe 2003 was the first or second year (??). In any event, our was a 2003. It handled very nicely on the road. I distinctly remember driving across the entire State of New Mexico segment of I-40 one day on over to Amarillo, TX at a constant speed of 70 on cruise control. Fond memories of our 2003 BT Cruiser.

If you like the size and layout of the BT Cruiser, you might checkout the Winnebago Aspect 23d. Initially we were looking for a used BT, but next to it was a used Aspect. We were surprised by how very similar they were. We're very happy with the Wiinebago and this might give you more options to consider.
They were available only a few years in that size, I think 2005 to 2007.
I do have to admit, the Aspect was equipped with Alcoa aluminum wheels! The cabinetry got my wife!

We bought an 07 5211 BT Cruiser in November for $22,500 with 28,000 miles on chevy chassis with 6.0l vortec gets 13.5 mpg. Its in good shape.

I bought my 2004 from an individual. It had 34,000 miles on it and I paid $16,000 for it three years ago.

Prices have gone up slightly - but here in Florida, you can still find good condition low mileage ones for under $20k.

A brief web search and it seems like $20K is a low price?

I am not new to RV'ing so aware of tires and genset and appliances and such. But anything in particular on the BT I should be looking for?

The 2004 BT Cruiser I had was well built, had solid wood cabinets, an oven under the stove top, a full size fridge and bath and shower and handled well on the road.

Mine was on the E350 chassis with the Ford V10 and it got surprisingly good gas mileage.

I have a friend who has a 2003 with 18,000 miles on it - he said he'd take $16,500 for it. He lives in California.

If the unit your looking at has been well taken care of, doesn't have dents or cracks in the fiberglass and the roof is in good condition, take it for a drive and see how it handles at 60mph.

If you like the way it drives, it might be the one for you.

Some consider the BT Cruiser as a B+, since it is similar to the "R-Vision B+ Series" in floor plan and overall design. This type of RV is included in many of the discussions in this on going 14 year old topic.
