Looking for advice on this Thor Class A model...

If I didn't chime in, I'd be doing you a dis-service. Read through my Schwintek slide out problems. has Thor fixed the latest episode? Yes. Do I have any confidence the slide out will last? No. Every single Palazzo owner I have met IN PERSON has had their large slide out Schwintek system replaced. I love Thor as a customer service oriented company. I hate them for their quality control and choice of large slide out mechanism.

My wife and I are seriously considering a Thor Palazzo 33.3. We have looked at other units but don't want a 40' coach. We purchased a Jayco Greyhawk 31FS last year but it does not meet our needs. We had to leave most of our stuff at home to keep it under GVWR of 14,500. We were able to keep the weight under by 500# but that meant leaving most of our gear at home and most of the storage empty. We need more CCC. We also still be able to tow our Tahoe which is permissible as it is under the GCWR but was more of a challenge than I liked especially on hills. We live in the Pacific Northwest and we have many hills. I'm hoping that jumping to a Palazzo 33.3 will allow us to carry our gear and go on long camping trips where we can dry camp for most of the time. I would appreciate any comments from people who own Thor products and in particular the Palazzo.

I want something around this size with a diesel and I want bunks for the kids. I know the Cummins engine has a great reputation but i know nothing about motorhomes and could use some advice. Is Thor a good brand or do you recommend another brand or model that has a similar floor plan?? Any help will be very much appreciated!!

In this price point you will be hard to find a better deal. We have been looking for a MH for months and settled on the Fleetwood Discovery 40G, but that is another story. In looking at bunkhouses we looked at the 33.3, the Berkshire 390BH, and the 40G I have now. The power was the best on the 33.3. The layout with the extra electric front bunk was neat. The only thing I didn't care for was it was the noisest down the road of the three and it was a little small for what we need. The Berkshire is a true 40 footer but will cost you a little more unless you want the Allison 3000MH, then it will be a lot more. The Thor fit and finish is not as good as the Berk and no where near what the Discovery is, but the prices go up and up to get more and more. 2 A/Cs, residential fridge, a true DP and 10 mpg. What's to hate? It seems to be a good family DP with a great price point.

You won't see 15mpg; my 6.7 in my RAM doesn't even do that.

We are on our second Thor product and have liked them both. When you buy a MH from them you get "concierge" service - one person to handle any issues you have with your MH. We took delivery of the new MH June 1, and we are very pleased with our new house on wheels.

I can't argue with that. It's a peeve of mine too. But in it's price point there is of little comparison. The Fleetwood excursion is comparible I guess, not sure about what sort of roof it has but no bunkhouse model and from reviews I've read tracks and rides rougher than the Palazzo.

As a current owner of 2 Thor MH's and someone who has looked and shopped the 33.3 I will offer what info I can. First, Thor is hands down one of the best companies I have ever dealt with. They truly support their product. I love Thor as a company. Thor has a knack for being innovative (mud rooms, electric bunks, laptop desks) etc and seem to be the first to incorporate "neat" and functional ideas from higher end units into trickle down versions. And in doing so are usually about the most competitively priced in any class. They are masters at getting more bang for your buck. The downside to hit this price point is usually found in the fit and finish. Not bad mind you but not high end. Quality is on par with any other offerings in a comparative class but fit and finish does seem to be where the price point is reflected the most. All that said to me equals value value value. Pair that with support and it's a winner for me and I will continue to buy Thor products. I have been looking hard at the 33.3. It's really hard to beat a cummins ISB DP on an air ride Freightliner chassis with a bunkhouse, Sikkens full body paint, low profile design, solid surface tops, real wood cabinets, 22.5" wheels, auto start gen with 2k watt inverter, residential refer, etc the list goes on and on for the price. From dealers to owners I have gotten feedback and they report the ride to be super smooth and very high end with little to no road noise. I have seen them on lots and approached owners at Cg's. One was about 2 weeks ago who had theirs 6 months with no problems and loved it and are happy to have made the purchase. One of the biggest selling points for me is that the power to weight ratio puts this coach in a position to boast 12-15 mpg. Some say hogwash but I can tell you some owners I talked to at length about their 36.1 (bigger and heavier than the 33.3) said they had calculated MPG at 12 and that was pulling a suv toad though the mountains. Most claim 12mpg is about right. That's a huge deal for me. I only have 2 real peeves so far with the Palazzo 33.3. One is the TPO roof over fiberglass. Not a huge deal and each has their merits but a solid roof would leave this coach with nothing to want for. Second is TV placement. The outside TV is fine, but the living room and to a lesser extent the bedroom TV mounts feel out of place. They sort of have that "well we had to put it somewhere" feel. It's not horrible but looks afterthought as opposed to integrated if that makes sense. Neither is a deal breaker for me, but it is a critique for me personally. Not sure where you are landing on price quotes but PM me and I can tell you best prices from a few dealers here in the North east. That said the 139k price is about lean as you'll get from what I am seeing. Mind you, you can get that same price on new 2014 with different paint options but the wait time now I am told is about 8-12 weeks. My local dealer has one coming in, I might convince DW to grab it.
