losing coolant, no visible leak

I have a 2001 Georgie Boy Pursuit, F 53 chasis with a ford v-10.

I have put 25,ooo miles in the last 4 years. I have been losing coolant as I run, maybe a quart in 100 miles. This has been going on for some time. I have checked under the rig time and again, while idling, sitting, moving slowly and I have never scene any evidence of coolant under the engine or at any of the hose connections. I can't figure out where the fluid is going. Has anyone had a similar problem or any ideas what the problem could be?
  • Yes, I had a sweet smell when shutting off engine after road trip. It was just a little drop in coolant over three years, then in my 454 Vortec Chevy engine I stopped for fuel and the head gasket between 3 & 5 cylinder allowed coolant into the cylinders. After taking on 55 gallons I started it and big ping could be heard and only 55 MPH left me thinking it was bad fuel, but after a compression test it showed those two cylinders were lower than the rest. That progressed to pulling the head and replacing the gasket. Now still some symptoms of coolant in the valley of the lifter due to the coolant being in the oil contaminating the metal. That coolant in the oil was flushed out and now the internal parts are being treated with an additive to the oil to clear out any pitting from the coolant in the oil. Of course you may just have a leak at high pressure through the ring of the oil filter or something less expensive to fix. My cost was $1700 including towing.
