Salesman switch is for the 12 volt circuits generally and NOT the AC.
Sounds like he may have lost a leg on the pedestal or in transfer switch, cord, etc.
This IMHO helps as the thermostat is 12 v and when you flip the "salesman switch" - usually right at the front door and easily flipped when exiting - indicating that we have lost 12v power somewhere.
All the simple fixes have been suggested - GFI - Reset the Inverter and the transfer switch.
Check the panel to see if a breaker flipper. If that is not the case then time to get out the tester and isolate the issue.
