Our '06 Phaeton is on a Freightliner Chassis with a C-7 Cat. Fought the low coolant light for several months this year, 2 new sensors, 2 different coolant sensor modules @ 2 Freightliner Oasis Service Centers, Freightliner Custom Chassis Service Center Gaffney SC and two Cat dealers. The feeling of the Cat dealers it's the "Freightliner side" of the engine, not "their side". Freightliner hasn't found it yet (4 days on Gaffney's part). Had it disabled since it was going from "Check Coolant" to "Engine Protect" on the monitor screen and "alerts" turning off, when 130°-140° was reached, couldn't wait for "Engine Shut Down" on the road. Coolant is level is fine, coolant system has been flushed, new thermostats and coolant installed. The last Cat dealer agreed with the last Freightliner service loaction (Bay Diesel) if the sensor and module didn't fix it "it's a problem in the wiring". That Cat dealer said "Could cost $2500 in labor to find a 25¢ connector. Do it the way truckers did before we had the fancy convenience stuff. Watch the coolant level and temperature gauge." That's what we're doing for now with the sensor disabled. We are watching coolant level in the overflow tank, the engine operation and temperature on our Silverleaf Monitor.
