I need to buy new tires for our camper but am not sure what to buy.
Sticker on door says P235/75/15 but I assume this sticker was on there before van was converted...Camper is about 6700 lbs...I am just wondering if the P's would be okay...
As a general rule, P-metric load tires are for passenger cars and LT tires are for light truck. However, since the original door sticker says P235R75-15, it does raise an issue. Found this article by
Tire Rack that discusses reasoning on the use of P-metric tires on trucks.
The article uses your exact tire size and does state the tire, if mounted on a truck (higher center of gravity), would be downrated to 91% of an automobile. The chart claims the tire would carry 2,028 lbs if on a Car and 1,845 lbs if on a Light Truck. You state that your conversion van weighs 6,700 lbs and if the load is fairly equally distributed, the 4 tires should be able to carry 7,380 lbs at 35 psig. You might want to have the van weighed by axle just to be sure.
