When I was a kid some guy convinced my dad to put some sort of device on the distributor of an 50 model Ford we had. It plugged into the coil wire hole and then the coil wire plugged into that. The theory as I recall was this thing caused a hotter spark and that would get better gas mileage because of more complete combustion. My poppa bought one of them as well. I can remember one of those things lying around the shop for several years. Wish I had one today to see what was in the cylindrical looking thing. I believe they paid something like 5 bucks, which was some pretty good change way back then
