Maine Transit Plate

I'm trying to find out if the state of Maine has a transit plate that allows someone to purchase a MH in Maine and drive it to another state where it would be registered. I've searched on the web, but can't find a definitive answer. Thanks for any help!
  • Thanks folks, gonna stop at the DMV office in Bangor to ask them how to get the plate.
  • I live in Maine and purchased a GMC Yukon in Texas. I brought the vin number and insurance card to the maine DMV and purchased a transit plate and drove it home. I taped the plate to the inside of the rear glass because it was paper and I did not want the rain to disintegrate it on the long trip. At night the plate was hard to see and I was pulled over by TX highway patrol because he did not see a plate. No problem otherwise.
  • Check with Maine DMV it appears they have them. Google Maine DMV
you may find a phone number.
  • If you are buying it from a dealer, they will provide you with a temporary plate. Either Vulcaneer or M Webber will know the best answer and I'm sure they will chime in.

I think: "Transit Plates – Transit plates are now available at the town office. The transit plate is used to move a vehicle from one point to another prior to registration. The fee is $13.00 one-way and $26.00 round trip. A current insurance card for the vehicle is required at the time of purchase."
