Maintenance Checklist

Hey all-

I'm taking my 2005 Holiday Rambler Ambassador into the shop soon for an overheating issue, which allows me to also take care of some scheduled-maintenance items. Which got me to thinking...

I have almost no mechanical background, and very little mechanical ability. So, when I got this monster coach, I knew I'd need to try to stay up with the maintenance, to avoid on-the-road problems as much as possible. So, I went through the owner's manual cover-to-cover and made a list of maintenance items and their service frequency. Even made a spreadsheet of the items to keep in my Maintenance folder.

But I've seen, on Rv.net and other places, that there are important maintenance items which were *not* in the owner's manual, and that's why I'm asking the forum: Other than the items below, which came from my owner's manual, what are important service items that you are aware of? How often should they be done? Are there any special instructions involved? For example, I've learned today that my radiator should be de-greased once a year. Never knew that.

So, review the list, and add any items you feel are important and relevant for an ISC 330 engine on a Roadmaster chassis. I think this info will help not just me, but lots of other folks too.

Thanks-
Dave

  • that's real great guys,, but I don't savvy your shorthand/acronyms.

would it be too much trouble to get you to translate?
  • I know this is not what you are asking but it is helpful in achieving your maintenance goal and it is free. It does take a little practice to get the most use out of it but worth the time in my opinion. I like that it emails me when it is time to take care of an item. Type in www.rvtodo.com
You should see AVAIL software when you hit enter. I tried to use the link but it takes me to my login page everytime. Too many cookies I guess.
  • your gonna need deep pockets for that list meny are very simple to learn. the more you learn about your rv the better maintence it will get.
  • Dave,

Congratulations on noodling out a pretty complete maintence schedule. Here are some thoughts for you.
    1. If your wheel bearing have not been serviced before, go ahead with it. It's time. You might consider having the hubs switched over to oil bath and they will be easier to service in the future.
    2. Same with the coolant. If it's OEM it's time to chance.
    3. If the Air filter is OEM it's time to replace. Cummins has recently recommended a 3 year interval for air filters as they can deteriorate from age and moisture.
    4. You should have Transynd fluid in your Allison. The filters should be changed at 36 months and the fluid at 48 months. If you establish a schedule of fluid testing then you can change fluid based on the testing but the filters should be changed at 36 months.

Now that you've learned all this you might consider starting to do some of these items your self. Most of these items are doable yourself but I wouldn't attempt the wheel bearings.
