Jim, please can I have a bit more of a complete answer?
As our home zip code is northern Illinois, we get Chicago locals, 2 abc,5 nbc,7 cbs, 9 wgn, and 32 fox.
They are on a spotbeam, and if we are more than 200 miles from Chicago, they do not work. 9 (wgn) and 32 (fox) even vanish from the channel guide. 2,5,&7 say we are out of our local area.
If I call dish and give them a different zip code, they authorize the local channels for that zip code. NOT Chicago channels, different #'s, different newsguys, different channels. I did this when we went to Kentucky, and got Louisville locals.
I recently discovered wgn up in the 200's somewhere, appears to be a national version, there was no news listed in the guide... perhaps a national version?
Other network channels were lists there, but I haven't fully explored it.
We're currently struggling with only partial reception on 119 and no other sats, due to trees.
Ah-so ... I now believe I understand. You want to get "Local Channels" but by local you mean where your bricks and sticks home is, not the true "Local Area" channels. I do not know aside from the internet, how to achieve that. Local channel access is decided by the current physical area major network provider I honestly do not know how to access Chicago channels unless like WGN, they are national channels.
