Mandalay Motor Homes

Looking for some input on any issues you may have had with a Mandalay Model 38B. Or just Mandalay in general. I'm looking at a 2004, getting ready to buy it.

Thanks for any input
  • They are good quality units. Normal problems of course.
Had mine for almost 10 years now.
  • We have an 2005 40e Mandalay since new and we love ours. The windshields of the 04 and 05's lacked support. Most of them have been repaired which require a factory visit. Folks at Thor have been great to deal with. Remember Thor is one of he largest and healthiest RV companies so you will probably have parts availability for the life of the bus. Also look for paint and /or fiberglass checking (small bubbles) all manufactures have issues with this due to bad fiberglass curing from the glass manufacturer. We have the 350hp Cat motor which seems to work well. Ours also has a side radiator. Good luck, hope you guys enjoy.
  • OK guys that posted on my request about Mandalay. I also am looking at a 2004 Monaco Diplomat for $3,000 more than the Mandalay. Both are very clean and have been garage kept and have all maintenance and service records. My choice looks like it should be a no-brainer for the Monaco, but there are some features that we like better in the Mandalay. Is the quality and the reliability of the Monaco that much better?
  • Monaco no better. Better go with the floor plan and features you like whichever one you choose.

  • We have a 2008 Mandalay 40G and love it. They are a well built rv. I would not hesitate to by one again. When we bought ours the main concern was floor plan. Second was what features did it have that were on our list. This was our second coach. We were lucky and it had everything on our list and then some. To us, if you are not fully happy with the floor plan you will soon hate it.

  • Any advice about fuel mileage difference on a Cummins compared to a Cat engine?
  • I have an 04 Dip, 38 wih two slides. We love it. About 8.6 mpg at 60 mph. It may require tires, filter and other fulid changes. Make sure you like the floor plan
