Manual window awning does not retract

Question

Winnebago Adventurer 38J.Manually operated window awning (not the big automatic awning) will not retract.I release the hold down strap and instead of trying to pull me off my feet it barely moves.I don't have a ladder with me at the CG but I can reach the roller. I tried rolling it a little bit and it did move some but very stiff.Is this the right thing to do - that is get a ladder and roll it up manually until I can get it fixed.Unfortunately we are to leave the CG tomorrow so naturally this fails tonight - and open!

If you can manually roll it up, I would do so. You'll probably have to tie it down/in to keep it that way as you go down the highway.

Sounds like the spring. Might be broken...OR....get a can of silicone spray, use the plastic extention and spray inside the holes on both ends of the spring housing. That MIGHT loosen things up. Did for me on my 16 ft "main" awning. (It felt kind of stiff...).
If the spring is broken, you got a problem. g'luck with it.
