MATTRESS REPLACEMENT

Good morning. AAAAHHHH cool weather here, FINALLY.For a few days anyway. Replaced the mattress in the bedroom. The one that came with the coach, well, not really very good. Should have replaced it right away when I took delivery. Bought a memory foam rv queen size mattress. It will get its first test at the MO. State Rally in a few weeks. It will certainly be MUCH better than what came with the coach.

I SOOOO wanted to replace our cheap OEM innerspring Short Queen with a Full Queen. I even lugged one in and tried it. Hard to believe there isn't 05" in 31' to have a normal bed, but we about couldn't get into the bedroom with the standard mattress.

So... Bought a foam Queen. Separated the cover at one end, marked 05" on the foam, and broke out Dexter the Chef's Knife. KristinU had a blog entry that encouraged this. To quote KU "It cut like buttah." Sewed it up making the cut off end the Head, against the rear wall of the coach. It's been nothing short of Excellent.

We asked at the mattress store, if customers'd done that. Said "Sure, Often, One guy bought an $X thousand TempurPedic, took it home, cut it off. Voids warranty but he didn't care." Neither did we.
  • Great mod!!!

I replaced mine with a full size queen. I extended the bed board by adding wood to the plywood underneath to support the additional length.

Anyone wondering what mod they should do next, replace your toilet if it's the tiny type. Best $$ you can spend on your rig after the bed.
  • We did the same. Replaced the old sleep number mattress with an RV queen gel memory foam one from bed-in-a-box. It's great to sleep on. We let it air out for a few days and its great, no smell. A little heavier than the sleep number though.
