Wondering about the road to McDonald Observatory. Is SR 118 RV friendly? Will be coming from I-10 and don't know if we should come in on SR 17 leaving the motorhome in Ft. Davis or just come in on SR ...

I totally agree. But the view through a flat lander's eyes is likely to be quite different than through the eyes of those of us who have done a lot of mountain driving.
Properly driving a heavy RV on grades is a learned skill.
