That is a great video. Thanks.

We visited the Washington Soldiers Home Cemetery, today. It is only a few miles from our house and in the 11 years we have lived here, we have not found the time to visit it. There is a Washington Soldiers Home just a short way up the road. There are beautiful historic buildings and park like grounds that facilitate all levels of care and housing for soldiers. The soldiers cemetery, on the hill just above the soldiers home, is filled with a history of our nation with gravestones for soldiers dating back to service in the Civil War. The Soldiers Home is located on the Orting Kapowsin Hwy, just SW of Orting.

Here are some neat sites about the Cemetery. Some are from other's visits.

Here is the Soldiers Home. The video might make you a bit dizzy but it gives you an idea of how the veterans are being cared for.

None of the above are our pics.
  • It is great that you have taught values to your family, as they evidently were taught to you by your mom. In a time that so many are "Free Spirits" or "Liberal Thinkers", it is great to see those that appreciate what has been bought for them with blood.

There are only two people that gave their life for your freedom.
  • Thanks, I will keep it up for as long as I can, then my daughter will take over and then it will be my grandkids. This has been our Memorial day for over 50 years. I forgot to say that my 86 year old Mom went with me on Saturday, Today we went with my husbands sister and brother in law to decorate 4 more cementaries in El Dorado, Ks. Here in Kansas all the cementaries are a blaze with flags and flowers.

    Indeed!

Your honor is not diminished by a thief. Keep doing what you do for those that have given.

If you are in or near S.E. Michigan there is a free Memorial Day concert at the White Chapel cemetary, Long lake at Crooks rd, in Troy, MI

I think it's 3 pm but do not quote me on that please.

i-75 to Crooks rd Exit, left on Crooks (Does not matter which direction on 75) left again (Michigan left) on Long Lake to the entrance, straight ahead to the concert. They were setting up for it when I was there today.

This is soooo true! We have so little respect for any meaningful holiday.
