mercedes or gas?pros and cons

as I figure it,if you get 11 with gas and 17 with diesel and then pay 60 cents more for diesel its pretty much a wash.so why would you pay 20,000 more for a Mercedes diesel class c? especially if you don't tow anything.???want to make right decision so your input is appreciated.

  • Well, it goes along the same route as buying a car. You can buy a nice riding car for 30K, you can buy a nice riding car for 50K. Both annoy me, I buy jeeps and

pickups. Personal preference i guess. It always amuses me when folks trade in their vehicle for one that gets better mileage. Considering the thousands of dollars

it takes to do this, how long before you recoup your investment? Neighbor has an electric car, says he never has to buy gas, his electric bill went up 175 dollars a

    month. Do the math.......
  • I like the idea of getting 17mpg's but am taken aback at the premium price being demanded for the Mercedes chassis based units. MPG is actually low on the priority list for me. Storage space both inside and out, holding tank capacities, interior layout, and access to a good mechanic when needed are all higher ranked considerations.

Um, how do you figure it's a wash? Using your numbers, you get 55% farther on a gallon, so if you paid 60 cents a gallon more for diesel, you are trying to tell us that you would plan to pay $1.10 a gallon for gas??? I wanna know where you are buying your gas.

Where I am, gas is around $3 a gallon right now. If diesel is thus $3.60, that's 20% more expensive. So you are saying that paying 20% more for fuel is going to cost you the same as getting 55% farther on a gallon????

I think you need to reconsider here. Or would you be interested in purchasing some oceanfront property I own in Nevada?
  • Gas.
Unless you are going to put, say 200,00 miles on the RV, gas is the way to go.
