I notice on your signature you say your Dodge Dakota has hy-rail gear??

Are you a signal maintainer or what do you do for the railroad. I am retired from the BNSF. I know you can not just hop on the rails if you are not working for the railroad. One good way to get killed.

I think now I have a mbe 926 engine. im learning more all the time. just discovered that the motorhome has never been serviced as to the MB engine. it has about 21000 miles. it is also a 2006, not a 2008. I have sent an application to join the freightliner owners assoc and have applied to a fcoc rally in oct.

does anyone have any experience with freightliner oasis service centers. there is one listed about an hour from Atlanta and is owned by peach state ford. I understand that once I get my membership in fcoc, I get a discount.

MBE 902 is a MBE 900 series engine, all in the series are essentially the same with some differences in ratings (programming) and accessories. Motorhome engine models often have higher HP ratings, for a presumed lighter duty cycle.

If it were still available it would be my preference in the 7 liter turbo-diesel class, only one at that size built like larger diesels. Freightliner or Detroit Diesel shops for service and parts. Most Freightliner shops are Detroit shops anyway, same parent company for many years.

There is a MBE yahoo forum just about this engine with a lot of information there. As far as oil I use Shell Rotilla 15-40. Filters and parts and service can be bought at a Freightliner or at Dietroit Diesel shops.
I believe the manuals and owners books are available on line at Dietriot Diesel. Your vin number would be a big help in those serches. Also a call to the Freightliner Training shop at Gaffney NC may be a big help too.

On our Gulf Stream club there are several Tour Master Gulf Stream coaches with the MBE 900 series engine, and they are a very good engine. Freight liner was installing them on their chassis, but then stopped because of the hard emission laws passed. That is when even Caterpillar also stopped putting out over the road engines. But the MBE has lots of torque and in our club very few problems. And yes I agree with a call to Gaffney Freight liner will give you all the information on that chassis. All you need to give them is the last six digits of the Vin number.

Based on Ivylog's post, I would spend just a few bucks and modify the fuel system: A ball valve on the inlet side of the primary/only fuel filter. Turning it off before changing the filter insures that fuel will not drain back to the tank, leaving you with 25+ feet of AIR in the fuel line. Also, a heck of an anti-theft device!

That and slowly filling the fuel filter with CLEAN diesel should make the process an easy one (very little air in the system).

you can get mercedes parts from any detroit deseil dealership as stated above always keep a spare set of fuel filters 1 tank ot loosey fuel will put you on side of road i rember pushing priming pump on one at work one 250 times to get it to start..old mechanic still workin ronster

thanx for all the help fellows. the engine is a mb 902 but I don't know what that is. I agree with most of you that the best thing is to contact freightliner and I will join their rv chassis club.

OP, you have a MBE 900 series engine... probably a 926 which is 7.2L with a max HP of 330. You can buy two oil filters on Ebay for $32. Baldwin P7230 and it is not a spin on filter... messy to change.
Do not change the fuel filter yourself. It is worse about loosing it's prime than a 3126 without a hand pump. Take it to Freightliner while it will still run! Some Speedco's have the hand pump needed to prime the fuel system.
The fuel filter is $20. EF 2636 or MB A 000 090 15 51 Mandalay may have added another fuel filter before the engine so Freightliner will not know it's number.
I would change the Allison primary filter which is $32 from my favorite site for cross referencing filters... Ebay

The MBE 906/926 is used in some of Freightliner's M2 Business class trucks. From my research it is the best engine in the medium class (5-6) trucks, even better than the Cummins ISC engines. It can have a compression brake or even a two stage compression/exhaust brake. I have spoken with the owners of trucks for sale with 600,000+ miles on the original engine and still going strong. I put my money where my mouth is as I own this truck with a MBE 926/Allison 3000.
