MH insurance by the month

Insurance is not going to cover the costs of total destruction. It takes not much damage to be in the "write off" category.

Also check rates with Progressive... they, by far, offered us the best rates... and when I did have a claim they paid up with out issue

Many companies have storage coverage. If you have a loan on your RV you will also have to check if the bank or loan Co. will permit it. I have dropped the coverage on the Newmar for the winter but left it on my Roadtrek in case I want to use it. The collision is what gets dropped. The comp. is always in force. Since both are stored in the same barn I wouldn't want to risk losing both if something disastrous happened. My total bill for 2 MHs and 1 car is about $2000 per year but that is in Michigan where we have unlimited benefits for personal injury.

If the MH is paid for, no one makes you purchase Insurance for it when it is not on the road. Just turn-in the tags to the tag office after you have parked it and enjoy your new found savings. You can even shop for a new rate when you want to put it back on the road. You also get to purchase tags again. Sounds like a plan. :h

As long as you have other vehicles insured with the same company you most certainly can drop a vehicle from all insurance companies and add it back on when you want. Key word being that you have your other vehicles insured with same company.

BUT

I sure wouldn't drop the insurance. What if it is stolen, burned, weather damage, vandalized, etc.?

Check the financial responsibility rules for Texas. If the state allows discontinuation of insurance, the carrier usually accommodates.

You can't do this everywhere. In Oklahoma for example, in order to discontinue liability coverage, I must re-tag a vehicle as "not used on highway." The tag fee is the same as if I were using it, and the increment is a year.

Of course, some operators self insure, rather than paying premiums to an insurance company. Here, we can post a bond for liability coverage to comply with the financial responsibility law.

Some insurance policies will wave the collision coverage if you don't take it on the road. You should leave the comprehensive in case of hail, wind, fire, etc. damage. We, too, have the 30 day limitation as is stated above.

I have GMAC thru GoodSams and you can place the MH in Storage mode which reduces the monthly cost in half. Only condition is you can only do it every 30 days. So if you take it out of storage you can not put in back into storage for 30 days. I keep it in storage mode when we are at a camp site for a few months.

Insurance isn't just for when you are driving/using it.
