- BigdogExplorerI'm 72 and drive a school bus regularly 7 1/2 hours a day and we have one driver that's 73 and another that's 74,so don't say age. My DOT physical gives me another year and that's only because I use a CPAP and they'll change that to the regular two years when I bring in my smart card to show regular usage.
I know that there are a lot of drivers out there that couldn't pass a DOT physical and you're driving a big rig. I'll also bet that there are a lot of you that have no idea how to check your air tanks or do a tap test on your air brakes or even why. - BillMFlExplorer

Do tour buses have solar panels all over their roofs. Fellow campers saw the same thing I did. Also the bus was on a different day.
I think that the accident that you are referring to involved a tour bus carrying students from a school trip to Florida that crashed into some trees on I-95 near Walterboro, SC. The bus driver died in the accident and according to the news report, miraculously, none of the students on board were seriously hurt. No mention as to what caused the accident except that it was a single vehicle accident.

Just two days ago I was driven off the road into the construction barrels by a Great Lakes Tanker. He failed to follow the jog in the lanes due to construction on I-75 in Saginaw.
Although I'm not 70 yet, the truck driver was much younger. Speed was supposed to be reduced to 45MPH but he was going at least 65MPH. Luckily only lost the driver side mirror, could have been much worse. - C_SLExplorer

Northbound just south of exit 53, looked like an older DP. Went into the trees hit pretty hard, on its side and looked like fire damage in rear engine area.
Probably didn't have an air brake endorsement.
You do not even know what state he is licensed in or what happened!! NOT all state require an air brake endorsement. The next thing someone will say he had old tires on the coach. - Patrol_65ExplorerI think that the accident that you are referring to involved a tour bus carrying students from a school trip to Florida that crashed into some trees on I-95 near Walterboro, SC. I know guys in their 70's that are running marathons. Just saw on the news the other night that a 104 year old women did a parachute jump off of a bridge! (Then complained that it wasn't high enough!) My Dad is 81 and most of the time has more energy than I do at 56! He's constantly out in his barn working on or building something. The list goes on and on. No longer can you judge the competancy of the person strictly by their age. To do so would be considered "old fashioned" ;)
- N7SJNExplorerI'm a retired bus driver, 75 so age wise I shouldn't be driving? I will stop when my annual physical says so, or my DW, which ever comes first.

my bad it was just south of Walterboro SC. I stayed near there last night. Watched local tv but no mention was made. Big traffic slow down there that day.cbr46 wrote:

It would help if we knew what state exit 53 was in. - mtrumpetExplorer

From reading the ads and such on the site, it seems to be Florida.
